The LUGO Press is a student publication forum, rooted in academia and journalistic practices and published by the Leiden University Green Office. Its main goal is to encourage high-quality pieces by student writers, illustrators and editors on sustainability-related topics, from issues of justice to energy and geo-engineering (see: Dossiers).
Content is written/illustrated on a personal basis and contributors are responsible for the content of the piece.
Submission Guidelines
Only students and members of staff affiliated to Leiden University can submit written pieces, essays and/or illustrations to the LUGO Press. To do so, contact the Editor-In-Chief at communication@lugo.leidenuniv.nl and include "Writer", "Illustrator" or "Guest Essay" in the subject line, as well as a previous work sample.
Guidelines for written work:
- Language: English (spelling: United Kingdom).
- Recommended length: between 300 and 2,500 words. This does not apply for poetry submissions.
- Style: can vary, but writers must be willing to work with assigned editor and illustrator.
- Topic: see Dossiers.
- References: hyperlinked and of a reliable source.
- Piece submitted must be own work.

Call for writers and illustrators
Are you passionate about writing and sustainability? Are there sustainability-related essays you'd like to share? Would you like to put your graphic design and/or illustration skills to use? We are searching for individuals to contribute to the LUGO Press with their writing, essays, and/or illustrations. Please include "Writer", "Illustrator" or "Guest Essay" in the subject line and include a short explanation of why you are submitting and any relevant details in the body of your email. Also include a sample of previous work. We look forward to hearing from you.
